Climate and manmade threats that lead to wildfires is a challenge that impacts a wide variety of stakeholders. Delphire, Inc. is one of DOE’s Office of Electricity Phase II Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) awards currently on their second year of their award. Delphire’s AI-based detection system is not just designed to assist electric utilities dealing with the threat of wildfires but can also be adapted to support a wider net of stakeholders facing this risk as illustrated below.

Delphire Inc. was among the top 3 awardees selected by CSAA Insurer Group (major California insurer), and Aon to receive the Climate Resiliency Prize: See https://lnkd.in/eiU6bvA8

In addition, Delphire Inc. and NASA-Ames have recently collaborated using their capability in areas with no cellular communications and low false alarm rates. Their modular system leverages multiple sensors combinations (visible/IR images, air quality, and environmental data) through edge-based AI to analyze sensor data and detect smoke or flames in seconds. These data then are integrated in real time with other external data using the ODIN-fire framework developed by NASA Ames Research laboratories, to provide an up-to-date tactical situation to the community in case of evacuation. Delphire’s DOE’s Phase II work can be summarized as follow: “To reduce the impact of wildfires caused by the electric grid by supplying utility customers with an early detection and warning system that can report fires in their earliest stages. Delphire prevents the damage caused from the electric grid related wildfires by providing customers with a real-time, AI-based detection system that detects and reports fires in their earliest stages and stores images and sensor data for root cause verification. Their system can continuously monitor power lines without direct human attention.”

I would like to congratulate the Delphire team for proactively engaging a wide range of stakeholders on such important issue. For more information about Delphire Inc. see https://delphiretech.com/
